A discovery tour of the Venetian Villas
Participants will be picked up at 08.00am for departure to Vicenza. The visit will begin with a visit to the beautiful Almerico Capra Valmarana Villa known as the Rotonda, which dates back to 1566. Designed in classical style by Palladio, its interior is a magnificent example of artists of the times. The tour will continue to the town of Vicenza with a brief stop at the Olympic Theatre, another work by Palladio and the first theater in the world built in masonry with its interior completely made of wood, stucco and plaster, where famous plays are still performed today. A short walk will take us to the Piazza dei Signori, the main square of the historic center of Vicenza – the business and leisure center of its citizens. The tour will continue with a visit to the town of Bassano del Grappa where you will have free time for lunch. Between April and September in many downtown restaurants you can enjoy dishes with their famous white D.O.P asparagus. The afternoon is free for you to visit the main attractions like the Ponte degli Alpini (Bridge of the Alpine Soldiers), a covered wooden bridge rebuilt according to a design by Palladio in 1569 after being destroyed by wars and river floods, from which you can admire the views over the river and the surrounding mountains. A stroll through the streets of the center will take you to also visit the Superiore Castle and many churches and historical buildings from Baroque, Renaissance and Roman times. Bassano is also famous for the production of grappa, and offers tasting at the famous distilleries in the center where you can also purchase bottles of the spirit.
